Interpersonal and Soft Skills
These skills are the cornerstone of my professional interactions, enabling me to build meaningful connections, navigate complex team dynamics, and drive collaborative success.
My Approach
As much as I like to relax, recharge, and focus with my head down in design work for hours on end, we all must work well with the people around us. Fortunately I like people! Most of them anyway. I believe communication, good listening, and empathy are all key in working well with the people around us. They also happen to be good skills for marketing design, in which we seek to communicate with and listen to our audience.
I pride myself on being adaptable to a lot of situations. I am able to keep a cool and level head with the pressure ramps up, seeing the next set of steps that need to be taken when a setback occurs or an important deadline looms. This helps the people I work with or manage remain calm in return, and allows us to accomplish goals amidst adverse conditions.
Professional Outcomes
Another piece of feedback I loved hearing, from a CEO I worked with on some important presentations: "Troy is the most drama-free designer I've worked with." When it comes to work, I like to keep any drama to a particularly compelling design, thank-you-very-much. I was glad the impact I had was being a resource of solidity, dependability, and not making life harder for my co-workers.
Besides having good work relations, I have cultivated a reputation for being excellent to work with. For coming through on-time, and communicating any upcoming difficulties with projects or particular challenges. On occasion I have been called upon to speak in person or via a video to a larger group, and as an introvert I have worked to hone my public speaking skills to do so. Above all, I am very happy when my team is receiving recognition, and doing our collective job to the best of our ability.
